Last weekend, a mortar exploded in Agordat, Gash-Barka region of Eritrea, wounding one civilian and killing livestock. Nobody took responsibility for the act and the government media does not report such incidents. Privately, government officials stated the mortar originated from areas north of Agordat and attributed the act to "traitors," a reference to the Eritrean opposition organizations. During the weekend, many senior government officials were in Agordat to attend the wedding reception of a close relative of the governor of Gash-Barka, Mr. Mustapha Nurhussein. |
