A Successful Bahti Meskerem Night in Oakland, California Print E-mail
By Desbele Kahsai - Sep 23, 2002
September 21st, 2002, could be called a turning point for the opposition groups in the Greater Bay Area.  The hall was full of new faces.  Hugs, shaking hands, good to see you, and we are back were some of the expressions used by everyone.  It was a revival night for all opposition forces.

Children program lead the core programs of the night.  As young as seven and eight were puzzled when they learned the Eritrean people couldn’t elect their own president, they don’t have laws, they can’t criticize the government, and they go to jail if they write or speak their opinion.  I was even more amazed when they called it a dictatorship government.  Not that PFDJ is a dictatorship but I found them to be beyond my expectation.

The message of the night focused on the mission of Bahti Meskerem.  It was to unite and liberate Eritrea.  The recent merger of ELF & ELF-RC is an example of the mission said the regional leader of The Alliance Forces.  After the briefing questions were discussed in an open and professional manner, as it is a  tradition for the group.  Although some lost soul individuals try to steal the occasion into their personal vendetta, the organizers kept the agenda in tact and it was concluded flawlessly.

The night was given a special high light by wodi Mussie.  He is in fact a true vocalist who should be recognized as one of the best Eritrean folk dancing singer.  Everyone enjoyed the dance and it was indeed an unforgettable night.  Furthermore, the reunion gave many people a new spirit of commitment.  They displayed their bonding with the Eritrean people.  And they will fight until sunrise.

LET THE PEOPLE HAVE A VOICE!
