Mr. Mohammed Ismail Abdu, a veteran of the Eritrean struggle, was buried in Khartoum Sudan where he died yesterday.

In the sixties, before joining the Eritrean Liberation Front, Mohammed Ismail was a staunch member of the opposition and a notable person in the struggle against the Ethiopian occupation. As a result, he was jailed many times and tortured by the Ethiopian security.

He served as representative of the ELF in many countries including Saudi Arabia in the eighties.

Mohammed Ismail was suffering from heart problems and he underwent a heart operation lately.

He was serving as the head of the Shura Council of the Eritrean Movement for Justice and Development when he died.

Mohammed Ismail was among the first people who opened dialogue with Ethiopia on behalf of the Alliance of Eritrean National Forces (now named Eritrean Democratic Alliance) in the nineties.

Mohammed Ismail was a founding member of the Eritrean Islamic Jihad.
