Awate - Featured Articles
By Gebru G. - Aug 05, 2008

What pushed me to write this article was the many wonderful articles that were posted on Awate.com through May, June and July of 2008 by different responsible Nationals. They are untiring in sharing their ideas and participating in nation building. I always enjoy reading their articles and try to reflect on them.

Even though I am not a well educated person like them and can not express my ideas the way they do it, as a student of the school of Shiek Ibrahim Mohammad Ahmed, Lightening Michael The Resolute, since the purpose is of sharing ideas, I felt honor bound to share with them and others the story of his divine guidance. The school of spiritual guidance, for reconciliation, unity, inspiration, love, respect, tolerance, prestige, dignity, prosperity and social justice.

.

Before going into details let me comment on the president of Eritrea's Speech that he delivered on the occasion of the 17th year of independence celebration. In his speech, he quoted an adage, which says a bankrupt trader revises his old account books. Sometimes it is easy to say than to understand what you are saying, especially with arrogant dictators. For an honest observer what he said was a slap on his own face because it reflects more about his misdeeds against the Eritrean people in particular and our region in general than his intended target. He does not seem to understand that the Eritrean people are revising their past to find out what went wrong and where the mistake lies for the unexpected suffering they are facing today under his arrogant dictatorial rule. The good testimony for this is the many featured articles and forum discussion that we read in awate.com and other websites that clearly show and convey the fear and concern of our people.

If it can help him reconcile with his own self, let me close this with the following adage to his Excellency the president of The State of Eritrea, "Aba gumbah zey gratu yikholl, hmaq seb’ay zeysebeytu ye’ell."

As I mentioned in my introduction, some of the articles that caught my attention were:

  1. A Letter to the Egyptian president by Elsa Chyrum dated 15/06/2008.

  2. Either/Or, and Adapt or Perish by Burhan Ali dated 23/06/2008.

  3. The Need for Dialogue by Saleh Johar and many others written before or after I drafted this article..

Dear Elsa, and her colleagues are doing a fantastic job! I would only say, Please keep on, eventually you will be rewarded. As for the appeal letter to the Egyptian President, I am sorry to say that, she is appealing to a confused opportunist man who does not know what he is doing. He is a man who is digging his own grave that he wishes to see others buried in it. Even if we look historically into the Egyptian stand towards the peaceful and harmonious living of the two brotherly people of Eritrea and Ethiopia, it was always negative covert diplomacy.

.

Burhane Ali in his article Either/Or mentioned two great blessed fathers. Fathers with the grace of Allah. They are both respected and remembered by both the Moslem and Christian communities with the strong belief that as men of God in order to gain their prayers, duaa and blessings.

.

I came to know about these two spiritual fathers through Sheik Ibrahim Mohammad Ahmed eighteen years back.

.

Today as ever, our country is blessed with the existence of such fathers. In addition, there is no other good example other than the late Aba Tecle Haymanot of Afelba. A devoted father who stood by the side of his people spiritually, morally, and materially. I met him once in Rome, Italy in 1981 when I went there to see him for personal matters. That year was the year he was busy coordinating to help asylum-seeking Eritreans to travel to the USA, where he did a splendid work. Even though, he was not free from criticism from some quarters in a typical Eritrean way.

.

At the time he passed away, may God bless his soul, I was at the home of my spiritual father in a heated HADRA. The gifted father who saw his passing at that particular time said, "You Eritreans have lost a great father, what will you will do?"

.

Though we are not short of such gifted fathers and mothers, I mentioned him with the strong belief that there are many people alive today who in their lifetime benefited from his teachings, blessings, curative prescriptions and heeling hands. Today they can witness and convey these to the young generation and save him from becoming an easy prey to the EPLF/EPDJ school of division, hate, selfishness, arrogance and dictatorial mentality.

.

Adapt or Perish was Burhan's second article, where he quoted Mr. Hykal's prediction about the future of the brotherly people of The Sudan. Again, from what I learned from my spiritual teacher about the future of the subject country, I agree with him in one point only and that is, The Sudan will face some hard times that can threaten its unity and territorial integrity, but I squarely disagree with him that it will disintegrate.

.

It was during his Hadras of 24/07/1990, 17/09/1990, 25/11/1990 and 18/09/1992 respectively that the Shiek repeatedly said that The Sudan would face some difficult times specifically under the leadership of President Omer Al Bashir. He continued, that the Sudanese people are our brothers, let us pray for them. (Yesudan hzb wendmachin nw’wna duachinn enyazlet) and even advised those who has relatives in Sudan to help them leave the country. While branding the other Arabs as the enemies of Ethiopia it is only the Sudanese people whom he singled out as our brothers, offered them his dua (deep prayer), and stood by their side.

.

Another good example of his good will towards the people of Sudan is that during the Nile River floods of the early 1990s that devastated a lot, he offered them his prayer. During his dua said, Abay (Nile) Yagerie lij, qum ybeqal (Nile, the child of my country, stop, enough is enough), thus the flood seceded and saved them from more damage and destruction.

.

During President Jaffar Numeri's presidency thousands of Eritrean and Ethiopian refugees flocked to The Sudan and were living peacefully. At the time, talking about Numeiri, he said, "Numeri my son is treating my people well. I want to help him. But, if I support him from the right he slips to the left, if I support him from the left he slips to the right, what I am I going to do with him?” Thus, he foretold of the eminent downfall of Numeri, but made him escape to Egypt where he spent some years in exile. Today Jaffar Numeri is back home leading a normal life. May God bless him to a good end?

.

Based on the above, what I want to say is that, since there is someone praying for them, the people of Sudan should resort to dua instead of wrangling and squabbling on non-cultura, unethical and non-religious trivial matters for the sake of dominating and controlling a multiracial, multicultural and multi religious country, to promote egotistic ideals.

.

On The Need for Dialogue by Saleh Johar: Saleh has said it all, but I want to see at it from another perspective and say a few words.

.

I think, in order for our political dialogue to succeed, we need to dialogue and reconcile with ourselves, our history, culture, customs and traditions and our faith and kinship. As I see it, because we neglected it and went astray, we find ourselves in jeopardy. We were not willing to maintain it, we find ourselves betrayed by it. That is why, as the great spiritual father used to say, the alien behavior that we inherited and are practicing today is backfiring on us and will not take us anywhere.

.

This inherited alien behavior made us blindly arrogant and self-centered, we embarked on a mission which is divisive and disheartening filled with negative attitudes of hate, belittling, downgrading, humiliating, segregating, insulting, instigating and even condemning others partly for their guilty and partly for the mistakes of our own making. It made us so blind that we only hear what others say about us and only know what they are doing against us leaving our provocative attitude aside. Unless we do a little homework, revise and adjust our way of thinking, there cannot be a magic dialogue that can bring us together with our blood brothers to solve our differences. The ball is in our court.

.

For this sad happening, we cannot blame the EPLF/EPDJ dictatorial leadership only, even though it bears the lion's share. It is all of us who are, knowingly or unknowingly, following and supporting the wrong path with little remorse from some quarters today.

.

I think the main cause for this mishap is the identity problem we created by our selves, that made us to run away from our proud history and culture and be immersed in a dilemma. If we had fought, or confronted the guilt that we faced, and experienced from different Ethiopian rulers, with a firm stand in recognition of our national identity, by which we are identified historically and culturally, today we would have been living in dignity and respect. We would have been prospering among the other family of nationalities that exist within the boundaries that we used to live for thousands of years. Our geographical location that we are proud of and boasting a lot about would have put us even in a better position and situation in a harmonious co-existence with our southern blood brothers today.

.

Kmbl belle, mber ney tekh’awe, today as ever, even better, that chance of peaceful united coexistence exist if the will is there. The unity and coexistence conducive to peace, prosperity, dignity and democratic rule. After all Melles and Isayas are not the Alfa and Omega for this great historical nation. As the great father once said they do not have history (Tarik yelachewm), when they pass, their atrocities will be buried along with them.

.

For those who have the interest to know more about what the great teacher said about the coming of this two organizations led by the two monsters to power and other events, here are some clues.

.

About the coming into power of the TPLF (wayane).

.

It was during the months' of May and June of 1990 that he offered them his blessing in reward to the difficult times of degradation, belittling and humiliation of the people of Tigray faced from different quarters of the Ethiopian population and the governments of those days. He stated clearly who the culprit was. Tigray the country of the nobility and heroes; the country of the Wagshumes (Tgray ye wagshumoch ager.) Who is belittling them? Even the CDU-Kinijit party practiced it in the last election of 2005 for which they have paid a price. The case is zetselaekayo yewerseka, zeneakayo yetneseka (the one you hate inherits and the one you despise hurts.)

.

That said, later on he said, if the Wayane rules the country properly, well and good, if not they will fall down where ever they go (Weyane bet’kkl tastedadr indehone tastedadr, alebeleziya beyehedechbet twedqalech.)

.

About the EPLF/TPLF relationship and its outcome.

.

a) In 1990 when both the EPLF and TPLF were in their final preparation to give the Derg a final blow, he repeatedly told his congregation at different days and times that both were useless and worthless. He said Ayenachew ay honum, ayenachew ay rebum.

.

b) Ye ertra guday tigrewoch kegebubet mella yelewm (if the Tigrians are involved in the Eritrean cause it will be spoiled.) Also on another occasion, he said for you Eritreans, it is the Tigrians who know your language (Lenante qwanqwachehun yemiyawqu inesu nachew). Indaka yeatwaka trahka yeriaka kemzebehal e’yu.

.

c) In his congregation of 16-17/9/1990 after telling the hardship the Eritrean people were facing at that time, of the two nameless thieves, said, cut their relationship into pieces. They are road sweepers (Menged teragiwoch nachew).

.

d) After independence when Melles Zenawi was frequently visiting Asmara, he said Melles is visiting his father Isaias for advice but Isaias will betray him.

.

e) In all his congregations he was repeatedly telling his followers that a very short difficult time was coming.  Accordingly, he advised us to pray for ourselves, for our children, for our families, for our people and our country.

.

About the EPLF.

.

At the time they were approaching Asmara, he said they will enter Asmara, but before entering, when they reach the town of Decemhare, many fighters will be killed by trenched Mengistu's soldiers.

.

About the construction work, which is going on today, he said, they will build the country. They will construct the Massawa Assab road. However, he added that the people of Eritrea would suffer under their rule and a day will come when they will say that Mengistu's rule was better.

.

About the coming of the Asians to Eritrea he said, the flat nosed Asians, that is the Koreans and others, will come to Eritrea to help build and develop the country.

He said all this before the referendum took place.

.

About The United States of America.

.

What he said was Le wedefitu America tqbtalech yeqbtetwa waga degmo tkeflalech meaning in the future America will missbehave and will pay dearly for its miss behavior.

Regarding the American interference, which is going on worldwide today, he said, America sraw neka-neka (America will poke its nose here and there but will not do any tangible work.)

.

Regarding the future American and British foreign policy towards Ethiopia he said, if they come to my country to teach and help develop the country and educate my people they are welcome. However, as in the past, if they get involved and interfere in its internal affairs, I will pierce their eyes. I will hit them.

.

Other Events.

.

About the future relationship between Iran and its Arab neighbors he said, time will come when both will realize and understand that the only way they can live at peace and prosperity is through mutual understanding and respect and not through muscle flexing and interference. For these reason they will solve their differences by themselves.

.

About Israel and its neighbors he said, the Arabs cannot win a war against them and there is no one in the area who can move a fly from their eyebrows. This is because he said the blessing of their fathers is with them and added, that, even the founder of the Holy Kaba (black stone) at Mecca was Abraham a Jew.

..

THE BLACK LION (AFRICA). On Monday and Tuesday 18-19/2/1991 while blessing Africa he said, Tuqr ambessa qen ywetaletal. The black lion will have his day.  Let him live in peace and catch up with them (the developed countries.) Why only catch up with them, let him excel in education and knowledge. But, add that, in order to achieve this, we Africans have to love and respect each other. If they (the West) are priding with their power, we will challenge them with God on our side.

.

This great father used to say that his prophecies and verdicts never fail. They happen either immediately or at some other time in the future. For this, there is no other witness than his followers, who always tell his story loud and bold.

Anyway, for now let me close my article by quoting the following two beautiful sentences that I recently learned from a friend.

  • He who is low and humble has no fear of falling down.

  • A man travels the world in search of what he wants, and returns home to find it.

God bless you all.
