Tesfai “Salina” [no last name given], a PFDJ official and a veteran combatant of the EPLF, was shot to death while sitting behind his desk.  

Suicide has been ruled out by the doctors and ballistic experts after they determined that he was shot three times—all in his head.  Two bullets went through his skull and one was encased there, according to the examiners.   

In keeping with its negative news blackout policy, the state-owned media has not covered the news.   Three years ago, Teklai “1984” Wedi Qeshi, the director of the PFDJ’s Veteran’s Affairs, was killed in Asmara in similar circumstances and his death was not announced either.  

Tesfai was a university graduate from the former Soviet Union and joined the ELF-PLF in mid seventies.  The monicker of “Salina” was due to the fact that he worked at the salt factory for a long time.
