EDA Has Succumbed To Its Contradictions Print E-mail
By Gedab News - Feb 25, 2007

The EDA which started its meeting for today four hours ago, failed to resolve the one-week old impasse to elect its executive leadership. After about two hours of discussion, coalition one and AlNahda left the meeting hall.

In a statement read in both Tigrgna and Arabic, AlNahda, the newest member organization of the EDA, announced that it will immediately freeze its membership in the EDA in objection to the decision of coalition two.

The crisis exploded when coalition two insisted on electing Mr. Beshir Ishaq (EFDM) to lead the EDA.

.

According to the bylaws of the EDA,  the election of the chairman of the EDA requires a two third majority. There are 22 votes in the leadership council. The coalition also announced its decision to form the executive council alone. As of the time this news is being published, coalition two is continuing in its meeting alone to form an executive council.

[Awate Editor: the use of "coalition one" and "coalition two" is put forward here for shorthand purposes only,  and in lieu of listing the names of all of the organizations involved.  There are no such self-identified groups names within the EDA.]
