By AEASS - Aug 07, 2006

PRESS RELEASE

We have received confirmed information from Libya that 400 Eritrean ( 300 male and 100 female) are currently kept in Libyan detention centers in Murej about 100 km from Bengazi. Among these detainees, there are 5 children aging between 2 and four, a pregnant woman, and 6 persons with bad health conditions. They are being detained under harsh conditions and the females went on a hunger strike last Sunday.

Realizing the high risks of deportation surrounding the lives of these innocent Eritreans, we urgently call upon all free Eritreans, International, and regional Human Rights organizations to take immediate actions for their immediate release and be given the right to seek international protection.

So far the Coordinating committee has a list of about 200 of these detainees and it is exerting efforts to get hold on the remaining names.
