1- Last week, NECS-Europe took part in the campaign against the illegal deportation of Eritrean citizens conducted by the government in Malta by running a petition in Eritrean websites. The petition list with its accompanying letter has been sent to Maltese officials, UNHCR, AI, HRW, and EU. The Co-ordinating Committee is quite pleased with the outcome of the campaign and it will continue to exert pressure on all parties involved until the situation is rectified.
2- Eritrean Reconciliation Forum, a London based society, has recently joined NECS-Europe. NECS-Europe welcomes the new member and renews its call for other societies to do the same. The aim of Eritrean Reconciliation Forum, is to promote the edification of social, economic and educational aspects of citizenship, human rights and the democratic process. It also makes every effort towards mediation and reconciliation between persons, organisations and groups who are involved in disputes or interpersonal conflicts whether in the UK or overseas. This new addition brings the number of civic societies up to eleven. Two more societies from Germany are also considering joining the growing family of NECS-Europe. Apart from the projects that are in progress, NECS-Europe is in view of options to bolster its civic undertakings. Co-ordinating Committee |
