On the night of Thursday, 3 November 2005, President Isaias Afwerki smashed a bottle into Mr. Alamin �Gerewyna� Mohammed Se'id�s face causing a big cut across his forehead. Alamin was immediately hauled off for treatment. He is now recovering at Sembel (Enda Korea) Hospital in Asmara.

The incident took place around midnight in the �West End�, a nightclub inside Expo Grounds in Asmara, where both, Isaias and Alamin, were partying with a number of other senior government and party officials.

Alamin �Gereweyna� Mohammed Se�id, a well-known businessman in Asmara, (not to be confused with the PFDJ Secretary, Alamin Mohammed Se�id) is a close friend of Isaias Afwerki and was EPLF�s de facto representative in Saudi Arabia in the 1980s to early 1990s.

In a similar incident in 2000, Isaias Afwerki had caused the evacuation of Mr. Naizgy Kflu, former Minister of Information, to Russia for treatment after a scuffle that led to Mr. Naizghi�s face-down tumble and loss of front teeth.

Such incidents are part of a pattern that is now all too familiar to the residents of Asmara.  The president is said to get into brawls with his colleagues on a regular basis.
