Victims of PFDJ Print E-mail

Among many other things one of the reasons that we Eritreans were the happiest nation in the world in 1991 was hope. Hope of a  prosperous, democratic and free Eritrea. This was particularly true for us young women of Eritrea.

Our mothers and sisters have fought the 30 years bloody war beside their fellow men and   proofing that women have a place in future Eritrea. Because of them we have hoped that we have a place and that we will be able to participate in any field for the re-building of our new nation.

But it does not take long for PFDJ to shatter all our dreams and hopes. I being one of the victims (I was a member of 3rd  round national service and assigned with Cor 2000,2nd berged,3rd battalion)
particularly want to talk about young women who participated in 'the national service'. It all begun the moment we left home to serve our country.

As the PFDJ always remind us by saying we walk (operate) like how a  the turtle walks(Akaidana akaida gobye). The moment we arrive to the different military camps that is after finishing our 6 month military
training the famous higher military officers also come out to greet us(very nice of them)after staying for  some hours 2 or 3 will be told that this is there destination and most of the time they will be so glad
because most of the time it will be closer to cites and this will go on till the last higher officer (enda ganta).Every officer picking the girl  who impresses him at first sight.

After 3-4 days later she will be asked "would you be kind enough to iron his shirt for me cause I have to do this and that" we being so naive would  say sure. After that he will say pleas make coffee for the
guests(his friends) I have to bring this and that, and this things will continue till all we ever do is make coffe, cook food(only for them)wash and iron their clothes and be a good hostess for their guests.
Questions that were polite  will be military orders & threats along with them. Upon refusal to do any of the above the military punishment is harsh and ruthless.

We could have lived and endured this cause once we see the way their brain works and what they think of us(a servant the government sent to serve them) all we do is count the days and hours till the day we will go back home. But they did not stop at that they want more out of this defenseless girls. What really amazes me is that there is a women's association in Eritrea(hamate's)who represent those who attack the right of a the Eritrean women than the women themselves.

Then comes there need for there sexual desires. They do not have to go anywhere while they have this girls who have no one to turn to. Many got raped, some  especially the real young ones got manipulated  some obeyed after being threatened to be shot if didn't obey and those who refused saw hell while they still live in the free great country of ours.

They were prisoned, ordered to cook for 30-35 people waking up at 3 a.m and working till midnight, going to every front fighting every war at the frontlines and most of the time being the only female in the area. You can differentiate them within a second cause all they look like is a walking corpse, with their hopes and dreams long gone and their life shattered because of this ruthless barbaric military officers.

This people belong in jail but there is no one to point a finger on them because they are what the government is.The system supports them more than it will ever support the women in the national service.

The organizations who represent the young and the women's association have failed in protecting us but most of all the PFDJ have used us to please his officers.
