Opposition Meeting In Khartoum Scheduled To Begin Tomorrow Print E-mail
By Gedab News - Jan 17, 2005

The Eritrean opposition general meeting will begin tomorrow in Khartoum. The meeting that was scheduled to begin on January 12 was delayed because many participants were stranded in Addis Ababa and couldn’t get seats in the overly booked Ethiopian Airlines that was ferrying thousands of Sudanese from Nairobi. It is estimated that thousands of Sudanese traveled to Nairobi to witness the Sudanese peace agreement signing ceremony between the Sudanese government and the Sudanese opposition forces.

A participant reached by phone in Khartoum reported, “All participants are now in Khartoum and the last group arrived this afternoon.”

Meanwhile, the Eritrean Popular Movement (EPM) is preparing to convene its first congress in Khartoum. The congress is scheduled to begin on January 26 at the Soba conference complex in the Sudanese capital, Khartoum.

In related news, Gedab News has learned that a group of five members from the Eritrean National Alliance (ENA) is finalizing arrangement to form a block and is expected to announce the formation of the coalition soon. Sources close to the ENA indicated that Mr. Herui T. Bairu, the chairman of the ENA and Mr. Mohammed Osman Abubeker, the ENA’s foreign relations officer are part of the block that is being formed.
