Hitch hiking (megurbat in Tigringna), a favorite of this writer during his childhood years, was so common that many a hiker had perfected the art of jumping in to a moving bike for a free ride to elsewhere. The technique was simple. The cyclist would release his left arm from the handlebars to open up the middle space of the bike. |

Clearly, the problem is not about finding a man. These Eritrean women, on the whole, come a dime a dozen for grateful men in the larger society. I know of one situation of an American man courting an Eritrean woman in full knowledge of the fact that she plans to end the relationship if and when she finds another Eritrean. |

Along with citizens from Afghanistan, Algeria, Bahrain, Lebannon, Morocco, North Korea, Oman, Qatar, Somalia, Tunisia, United Arab Emirates and Yemen, some Eritreans fall in a special category that the US Department of Justice's Immigration and Naturalization Service calls "Call In Group-2." In its Federal Register Notice of November 22, the INS calls on individuals covered by its criteria to register at the INS between December 2, 2002 and January 10, 2003.
