Our politics has never been demarcated so clearly. And not along the soft-on-Ethiopia, principled-on-Ethiopia, violent vs non-violent, nationalist vs sectarian/ethnical but along meaningful divide: pro-tyranny and pro-democracy.In the middle are the hostages of Isaias Afwerkithe people of Eritrea, including its Defense Forces and civil servants. By words and deeds we must now assure the hostages that the replacement to Isaias is just not worse than the tyrant, but imminently better... |

In his New Years Interview, Isaias Afwerki has, once again, made a compelling case for term limits. With all his problem-describing skills, it is a wonder how it has escaped the notice of the Consultant that one of Eritreas biggest problem, if not the biggest, is the President. The man has just got to go. If he doesn't believe me, he should hire real consultants who are not afraid of him--they will tell him the same thing. Better yet, empower the people and the conclusion will be the same. |

After having his Foreign Ministry issue a press release entitled "An Axis of Belligerence Cannot Be Tolerated," after having his ambassador to the UN submit this same document to the Security Council, after having his Research Center issue a series on "The Sana'a Axis of Belligerence: Practicing Terrorism and Supporting Terrorists", Isaias Afwerki is now saying that he was never, ever concerned about the "tripartite alliance." |

These factors, and others itemized in the report, as well as in the almost daily bad-news-bulletins, make up Eritreas blinking red light. A nation somewhere between insolvency and war. A responsible leader would exercise leadership and take whatever measures are prudent to place Eritrea on a path of peacetime economy, which begins with finding a swift resolution to our border crisis. But, if you have an escape artist for a president, as we do, a person who delights in juggling swords and bowling balls and axes, all of these challenges must be quite thrilling. |

Here are two different images: the hushed tones of a radio announcer which invariably paints an image of Eritrea as a frail, patient ade who has to endure the sins of her wayward children thus evoking.pity. And the outraged message of the Asmara youth who evokes.anger. A youth who lost a brother in yet another crime scene, yet another insanity and serial lying by the PFDJ, this one called Adi Abeyto. Which Eritrea is more accurate? And which Eritrea is calling for action? |
