Mohammed Ismail Abdu Passed Away

In the sixties, before joining the Eritrean Liberation Front, Mohammed Ismail was a staunch member of the opposition and a notable person in the struggle against the Ethiopian occupation. As a result, he was jailed many times and tortured by the Ethiopian security.

Eritrean Government Unit Attacked

Reached by telephone in Addis Ababa, Mr. Abdella Mahmoud informed Gedab News that the prisoners “underwent medical examination and they are in good health.” Abdella added, “once they are debriefed, they will be sent to Shimelba refugee camp where they will decide what they want to do.”

Sunabera Debena Has Died

Sunabera was one of about a half-a-dozen of elderly Eritreans who were arrested in October 2001 shortly after they attempted to mediate the conflict between two sides of the ruling party, PFDJ. Like his fellow prisoners, he was neither charged, nor found guilty, of any crimes.

An Eritrean Priest In Nairobi Faces Deportation

The Eritrean embassy in Nairobi is hunting an Eritrean Orthodox Church priest in Nairobi Kenya with the help of some Kenyan officers. The priest is among the clergy that opposes the regime’s involvement in the church's affairs; the embassy’s aim is to deport the priest to Eritrea.
