EDA: Do Or Die Time
By The Awate Team - Mar 05, 2008

The only item on the EDA’s agenda should be: How To Transform Our Organization To A Movement.  If it takes the courage to do so, we promise that it will receive the embrace and overwhelming support of Eritreans—inside and outside Eritrea.

The Answer Is Still Dialogue
By Awate Team - Jan 01, 2008

The “you are either with us or the enemy” is meant to shut off debate, to criminalize dissent and to intimidate the wavering into obedience.  When you carry a name like Awate, it is unthinkable to be bought off by anyone, least of all by the Weyane—just as it is unthinkable to be bullied by anyone, least of all the PFDJ.  So the name-calling and false accusation are as futile now as they were when they were directed our way in 2000.  We shall persist, come what may. Some will see the light; others will get burned by the heat.

Eritrea Doesn’t Sponsor Terrorism...
By Awate Team - Aug 20, 2007

The United States would never have threatened to list Eritrea as a state sponsor of terror if Isaias Afwerki had limited his hobby to terrorizing Eritreans only. For practitioners of within-the-border-terror, the United States has less severe appellations like "countries of concern" and "outposts of tyranny."   And when Ms. Jendayi Frazer says "We are not looking to go down this route..", she is telling Isaias Afwerki that the threat would vaporize if Isaias would promise, as his friend Muammer Khaddafi did, that he would give up international terrorism in favor of being a plain ol' tyrant.

Planting The Seeds of Friction
By Awate Team - Jul 24, 2007
The "President of the State of Eritrea" has sole authority to grant land (mining, leasing, owning) rights to “individuals who do not have Eritrean citizenship or entities which are not incorporated in Eritrea” (Article 8).  Now, with more super-centralization, the President has the same power over Eritrean citizens.  Those who are temporarily benefiting from this injustice are only postponing the conflict--if not them, it will be their children and grandchildren or shareholders who will bear the brunt of those victimized by PFDJ's unjust laws.

Be The Alternative You Seek
By The Awate Team - Jun 01, 2007
Eritrea does not belong to the PFDJ and the opposition only. It belongs to all of us. Those who are inspired by the leadership of the existing opposition groups should not be dissuaded or discouraged from pursuing their goals. Those who are not should not use their dissatisfaction as an excuse to do nothing—they must become the alternative they seek.
