***image2:left***Every night, the cars arrive with new loads of prisoners… They are landcruisers, they are sedans, they are different cars with five different license plates: civil, government, rentals, commercial and associations. They always tell the soon-to-be jailed, “we need you for five minutes.” Four to five years later, the detainees often will wail, “when they brought me here, they said they need me for five minutes!” These cars, some are tinted…Once, over 30 individuals were loaded up and they were executed (“ny hywet sgumti tewesiduwom”)after being tried by a committee. They never had a day in court.

Unfortunately, all the present national political groupings and the Eritrean people were denied the opportunity to come together and agree on a national formula for any system of governance. After the liberation of Eritrean in 1991, there was a need for all Eritrean stakeholders to come together and establish a system of governance that accommodates diversity and social justice. This important opportunity was denied to us all by the rogue regime of EPLF/PFDJ, which resorted to violent means to establish a ruthless chauvinist dictatorship that left many Eritreans marginalized.
