Dear Friends, For over three years now, we
have been laying the groundwork to set up a member-supported, independent
Eritrean institution that will be a catalyst to bring about a just and
democratic Eritrea. An Eritrea where the people are sovereign, a nation where
the citizen's universal rights and liberties are protected; a sovereign nation
at peace with itself; a state that is subservient to the rule of law. For over three years now, we
have resisted calls to hastily set up an organization and launch a membership
drive. We have resisted these calls because we are painfully aware of the
many Eritrean organizations that have disintegrated shortly after their
celebrated launches or even "mergers," and we attribute these failures
to insufficient groundwork and short introductory periods. For over three years now, our
readers have had the opportunity to evaluate our stand with respect to a number
of issues including: Eritrean sovereignty, Eritrean governance, Eritrean
citizens rights and liberties--freedom of expression, freedom of association,
freedom of worship-reconciliation and peaceful struggle. Throughout
this period, we lost some former supporters and we have earned the respect of
former foes but our objective has remained unchanged: to build a strong civil
society that will advocate the rights and liberties of Eritrean citizens
anywhere against forces and governments anywhere who violate this right of
citizenship that was earned by such a heavy sacrifice. We have received hundreds of
messages of support from Eritreans who share our objective. We believe now
is the time to pool our resources and that of our supporters so that we can
create a member-supported organization to bring about the desired objective. Membership Drive (Phase 1) We can change Eritrea and the life of Eritreans for the better-but only with your help. Thank you The Board Of Directors NB: Article
