Adem Melekin: A Brick In the Foundation Of Eritrea (1)
By Saleh Gadi - Apr 11, 2005, 09:44 PST
How is it that a country whose citizens overproduced bravery is in such malaise with her children fleeing from her and her exiled ones quietly enduring exile? The solution is with the PFDJ, says Melekin and, "if I could, I would tell them: you struggled and succeeded and now you have the solution in your hands- you are not going to live for a hundred-years, sooner or later you will die. You should leave a legacy that would add to your previous legacy- why do you want your children to be remembered as the ‘children of the thief’ or ‘children of the killer or jailer?"
Hamed Idris Awate: The Match of The Eritrean Revolution
By Awate Staff - Jun 19, 2003, 17:53 PST
A mini-bio on the man who started it all, and the inspiration for this website, Hamed Idris Awate "The ELA decided not reveal the martyrdom of Awate, and they buried him secretly. Awate’s martyrdom was made public 4 years after his death. Martyr and leader Hamid Idris Awate led the armed struggle in its critical times. He laid the way for this new Eritrean experience to take its shape. Awate died when our revolution was in desperate need for his leadership. He has gone but left huge legacy of self-reliance. He left without a farewell to his comrades, people, family, and most importantly his wife and son Karar who was born in the jail in the city of Tessanai."

From The British Archives: A 1953 Letter To The UN
By Awate Research Unit - Apr 17, 2003, 01:04 PST
In 1953, when the Ethiopian regime was encroaching into the Eritrean Federal authority, men of reason and courage appealed to the United Nations to look into the matter. They were ignored. What started to brew then was the anger of the Eritrean people. The anger led to the formation of the Mahber Shewate and later the Eritrean liberation Front.
Comparing Yesterday and Today: State of Emergencies in Eritrea (British Archives)
By Awate Research Unit - Apr 6, 2003, 14:18 PST
The current situation in Eritrea is reminiscent of the late sixties and early seventies when the occupation army was running Eritrea as a military camp. In 1970, the Ethiopian occupation army declared a state of emergency across Eritrea. What followed the Declaration was too painful an experience to be forgotten. The declaration heralded a chain of village burning, jailing and massacre of great magnitude; the massacre of Ona is one such example.
