OBITUARY
The much celebrated life suddenly comes to an end.
God takes what is his.
We are born.
We live.
We die.
Hakim Reesom Haile left us.
Hakim Reesom went to meet his creator.
Hakim Reesom left us his songs and dancing words.
His colorful, flamboyant prose.
His immortal graceful picture of Kdan Habesah, a classy Gabi over his shoulders…
His hands floating in the air weaving poems with everyday words.
He said Alewuna Alewana.
We say, Alenna, Alenna.
We have his poems and the unique style he developed.
Reesom changed the style of Tigrgna poems.
Introduced it to the world like no other time before.
He revived the art of Eritrean poetry.
He passed away; but his poems will live forever.
Reesom made his last journey.
Bon Voyage Hakin Reesom.
Continue reading your poems to those in the afterlife.
We will continue to read your poems. Your legacy.
Hakim Reesom is survived by his daughter and wife who live in Brussels and his extended family in Eritrea

Alowuna, Alowana (We Have)
We have men and women...
We have women and men….
Without end in the struggle
To grow, study and persist.
Who think and think again
To teach, learn and know…
Without the lust for power.
Who stand up or down
With our consent.
We have God and a future.
We have men and women
Who belong in our nation
And we belong with them….
We have women and men.
Rejoice.
